A brief history of Deal
Deal developed into a port by the end of the 13th century. Deal, Sandown and Walmer castles were constructed around the town by order of King Henry VIII to defend against the threat of foreign naval attack.
The Goodwin Sands are around six miles off of Deal’s coastline and they are known as a source of shelter and point of danger in the history of sea travel.
