I have always liked numerical activities and the majority of my previous employments have included a financial aspect to varying degrees. I'm enjoying working for Miles & Barr.

I've found myself working as part of a great team of accounts staff and a friendly group of people in the wider office.

When I am not at work I'm kept busy with a variety of activities from usual tasks, to breeding parrots and parakeets. I also enjoy reading, music and handicrafts.

I have been working in estate agency since 1996, having somewhat stumbled into the industry by serving Christian Miles in a restaurant where I worked as a waiter, while studying for my A-levels and subsequently got offered a job to start my career at Woolwich Property Services in Ramsgate. I'm still not sure if it was down to the quality of service or the food that got me the job!

In January 2000, one year on from the launch of Miles & Barr, I rejoined with Christian & Stuart to help open the new Cliftonville branch which followed the success of the Ramsgate offices' first year. I worked in Cliftonville for a number of years, progressing to the role of branch manager and from there found a key role in the opening of new branches in Ashford, Deal and Herne Bay.

Having become a director for the business in 2013, I am now predominantly based at our head office in Sandwich, where my role combines the management of the Miles & Barr contact team, writing and delivering company training, running the conveyancing services team and writing/designing company marketing material.

I've been part of the journey for such a long time and seen the development of the business over the years and the one thing that makes it so special in my opinion is the people who work here. Without them we wouldn't have the business we do. The family feel to the company is what I believe sets us apart, as everyone tries to share the same values that have been instilled from day one, with close knit teams that really care about the business, each other and our clients.

Outside of work I am an avid football fan, with sport in general being my biggest passion. With my football playing days now behind me, I like to play golf and am a member at my local course, North Foreland. I also enjoy spending my spare time with my close friends and family.

I left Ramsgate Technical College in 1983 and went into estate agency at the tender age of 17. Initially I began my career with a traditional, established agent, Holness & Ovenden and moved on three years later to Robert Lovett Property Services. In 1989 I moved to a corporate company, Woolwich Property Services. I was there for six years as a manager before becoming an area manager for Kent, overseeing 12 branches. The Woolwich taught me the importance of training and professionalism.

Having benefitted from the experience of working within both the independent and corporate sector, there was a fantastic opportunity to create Miles & Barr and develop a super-hybrid of the two, professionalism and training alongside great personal service and the ability to react and change quickly.

So in 1999 I took a leap of faith and set up Miles & Barr with my old school friend, Stuart Barr. With a young family things weren't always easy. In the early days a rota of 13 working days out of 14 and no holidays for the first year or two definitely proved challenging. However, luck was with us and the market was good and more importantly, we got good people on board within the business, which enabled us to grow and progress.

One year later, we took the ‘bull by the horns' and opened our second branch in Cliftonville. This was equally as scary, however, again having the right people and approach seemed to work. We continued with these values and in 2002 acquired Fosters in Herne Bay and Whitstable, which took us into new areas and introduced our business to lettings and property management.

My wife Jane and I have four boys, Henry, Ed, Billy and Freddy. It's a lively household, often with an activity or sport going on somewhere! Squash, cycling, rugby, horse-riding, football, table tennis, skiing, snowboarding just to name a few of the things we do in our spare time. My eldest son Henry now works part time in the business, arranging viewings for our Broadstairs office, when he is home from studying his politics degree at university.

One motto I try to instil into my boys is – whatever you do - always do your best!

“I started out in the financial industry back in 2007 at Nationwide. I've had a number of roles in the sector, from being a mortgage adviser, trainer, to a management role. I joined Miles & Barr as a manager to head up financial services with a view to growing the business and our team of advisers. In more recent times I have become the director of financial services for Miles & Barr and I oversee the whole department, working closely with both the advisors and admins.

The growth of Miles & Barr has gone hand in hand with the growing number of advisers and our administrators. We have an experienced advisor in each of our offices as well as a strong administration team based in our head office. Having both advisors and admin means we are constantly up to date and our clients have unparalleled access to their ongoing cases. We carry out regular meetings for training, roleplays and general catch ups to ensure the team has a strong bond and that everyone stays at the top of their game.

My interest in the industry spans back to my school days, I always had a way with numbers and mathematics, so naturally the career path was an easy choice.

Aside from work I enjoy socialising with my friends. We have plenty of local towns that offer up lots of things to do, so I'm always busy.”

I've been with Miles & Barr since we founded back in 1999 as I'm married to co-founder Stuart Barr.

The thing I love about our company is that all the people we have are lovely and we wouldn't be where we are today without them, so that makes me feel very proud.

I love fine wines, food, animals, holidays and watching all sports.

I've been working in the industry since 1991, starting out as a trainee in an agent based in Margate. After various job roles at a couple of estate agents I joined Miles & Barr in 2001 and have been here since. I was involved in the brand branching out and played a part in the opening of offices in new towns.

I have a passion for the training we provide in the company, writing and delivering it for sales techniques. This helps our new starters to better themselves and grow in confidence, which is important, so they deliver a perfect service. Having good confidence helps to improve the experience for our clients and makes sure we can help them with all their needs.

Marketing and advertising campaigns are two other areas I have direct involvement in. Creating campaigns for local papers, our website and social media is important for brand awareness and making sure the Miles & Barr name is widespread.

What I love about the company is the atmosphere we have. Our growing number of staff makes it even more important to keep a family feel, as directors we aim to keep relationships with all our staff, so everyone feels valued and a part of the team, not just a number. As a result of this we dominate the market, staff work harder because they enjoy coming to work, they have real friends and find managers and directors easily approachable.

My spare time is spent with my children, I love spending time with them. Visiting our local towns is something I like to do with both family and friends. I have a great friendship group and we enjoy putting into local businesses to support them so they can grow.

I've been driven by social media and communication for several years and Miles & Barr offered me the ideal role to hone in on my skills. As a Multimedia Journalism graduate my role of Digital Coordinator is perfect for me.

I love working for Miles & Barr as everyone in the company is approachable and friendly. The directors and office managers give everything so that you feel valued as an employee and their support goes a long way to making sure you look forward to your day at work, which is exactly how it should be.

In my spare time I play and watch football religiously. I'm obsessed with football stats and facts, sneakers and enjoy spending time on European city visits with my girlfriend. I have an integral role in writing articles for MLSGB, an MLS & Premier League website I was a founding member of at university, which lead to a feature in the New York Times. I also run a sneaker dedicated Instagram page which has a following of over 200,000 people.

Since finishing university in 1999 and following a short period in the city, I have worked for Miles & Barr. I have held several roles in the company, starting out as a trainee I quickly found myself moving through the ranks up to my current position as a director. Going through various roles gave me solid grounding in not only all things Miles & Barr but everything you would expect from market leading estate agency.

In more recent years I have played integral roles in all aspects of the business, including technology provisions, business planning and implementation, franchising and accounting.

Predominately, my day-to-day responsibilities involve overseeing the output from our Deal, Dover and Folkestone branches. I conduct induction training and contribute towards overall business planning, strategy and marketing within the company. I've headed up and played a fundamental role in the development and design of the new Miles & Barr website.

My hobbies and interests are family orientated with my wife and children. We love holidaying together, discovering new places, show jumping and three-day eventing. I love sport in general, football, golf, formula one, skiing and diving.

I've worked as a chartered accountant for over 30 years, having spent 16 years in practise and a further 16 in commercial experience in estate agency, but previously in construction and site manufacture. I've got a degree in business studies and majored in accounting with economics and marketing.

I love the diversity of what I do as I get to cover all aspects of the business, financial services, lettings and estate agency. My main roles are to head up the accounts team and work with the board on financial strategy. I love working for Miles & Barr because of the professional outlook and diverse range of people.

My spare time is taken up by a range of interests. I've played masses of sport but golf is now my main hobby. I've got a huge interest in photography, wildlife and travelling. I love to have a rounded general knowledge.

Having completed my A-Levels and deciding University wasn't the path I wished to follow, I embarked upon my Estate Agency career in 2003, joining the Herne Bay branch of Miles & Barr as a trainee negotiator. Within a couple of years I had progressed through to become the branch manager of the Herne Bay office leading the team to Miles & Barr's Branch of the Year in both 2006 and 2007.

In 2010 I was given the opportunity to purchase a Miles & Barr franchise and I opened my own Miles & Barr office in Canterbury, building the business from scratch with just three other members of staff. Within a short period of time we were recognised as the top selling agent in the Canterbury market and in 2015 we moved to our superb new office which now accommodates 14 members of staff.

At the time of moving into the new office I was given the opportunity to become a Director of Miles & Barr so I now oversee our offices in Canterbury, Faversham, Herne Bay & Whitstable, ensuring that the offices are performing to the best of their abilities whilst making sure they working the Miles & Barr way. I'm also involved in some of our Land & New Homes projects, as well as being an integral part of the design and build of our new Miles & Barr website.

Outside of work, I am a keen football fan and still find time to play on a weekly basis whilst also following my favourite team. I also enjoy spending time with my family, taking our dog for walks either along the seafront at Tankerton or into Blean Woods, and socialising with friends.

I like working amongst a young and enthusiastic team and how the company has a focus on helping the local areas.

In my spare time I like organising and training for challenges; such as the coast to coast. I'm very active and like to try new activities when the opportunity arises to do so.

After leaving school I spent six years in the travel industry and after returning from travelling in 1991 I decided it was the right time for me to follow a career path. I wasn’t sure of what angle to take but I knew it had to be people based. My old school friend Christian Miles got in touch with me out of the blue, he was a manager at Woolwich Property Services at the time and said he had the perfect role for me. By February 1991 I had started as a negotiator and my first day was intense to say the least! So much so that I had to leave at five o’clock. There were only four in the office at that time, something I valued immensely as I believe you learn quicker, every day was different and my role gave me immense satisfaction. By 1995 I became branch manager of Woolwich in Ramsgate. Still working very closely with Christian and by the summer of 1996  the seed was sown for Miles & Barr and on the 4th of January 1999 we opened our doors for business.

When we set up, we knew our capabilities and that we could offer something different to the market, good, old fashioned customer service. It wasn’t easy, but hard work never killed anyone and for the first 2 years we worked 13 of 14 days, which was essential to our success. Of course there was an element of good fortune involved, but I believe that  you create your own luck, the market very quickly took off and we recruited the right people on board from the outset. Christian and I spent three years working in the frontline of the business, to ensure maximum growth. We had great support from our friends and family as well as the local community, which was tremendous and something we are forever grateful for.

I love to make things happen, one reason why you’ll never find me tied down to one office. In the earlier days it was networking the business to valuing properties, now it’s heading up our Land & New Homes, working very closely with Miles & Barr Exclusive Homes, We had and still have a great approach for training our staff. The best only comes from how you train, regardless of profession. Our investment into training is hugely important and it means our clients benefit from highly trained professional and personable people.

The future for Miles & Barr is exciting and I firmly believe the opportunities we create at Miles & Barr will only continue. Any business is only as good as the people who we work with and I am very proud of what we have achieved over the last 18  years we do have an amazing culture and when I reflect our principles have stood us well since we launched and we will continue to learn, do the right thing, to the best of our abilities and show people that we care.
