We are delighted to share the news with you all that Miles & Barr Birchington has been honoured with a Civic Award by Birchington Parish Council.
It was the first time that Civic Awards have been held by Birchington Parish Council. The event took place on Friday, September 15th 2017. Our branch partner, Scott Roberts, attended with a few members of the team. The award was presented to us by Cllr Neville Hudson and it is a rare occurrence in our industry to be selected for such an accolade.
Over the past few years we have sponsored and supported the Parish Council fund raising for the annual Christmas Fair and turning on the lights ceremony.
Alongside this, we have regularly been sponsoring the Birchington Primary School Summer Fair, as well as raising more money at the fair itself and giving away countless footballs to the school. Although not in Birchington, we have also been supporting the Christmas Fair in the nearby town of Westgate.
Scott summarised the evening in his own words: “The calibre of people in the room that have given up their time to help improve Birchington was very humbling.
A lady who organises regular litter pick-ups to keep the village clean and tidy, another who plants and landscapes open areas that have been left uncared for and overgrown to keep Birchington pretty.
One gentleman who has supported many projects in Birchington – his most recent being the pedestrian crossing outside King Ethelbert School, keeping the children safe as they cross the road.
Another gentleman, Birchington Silver Band member, who started playing aged ten and now in his 70s, also received an award for his incredible dedication and love of music.”
Scott highlighted that there were so many hardworking people who deserve recognition and how much the award means to him and the team: “A lady who organises a weekly food bank – giving regular food donations to those less fortunate and the list goes on… This felt like a real achievement and acceptance into the village and has definitely inspired me to do more when given the opportunity.”
